MENS CHEMICAL PEEL FAQ

How does a chemical peel affect facial hair?

A chemical peel typically does not have any affect on men's facial hair in terms of growth or density. If you have facial hair, you may need to temporarily modify your grooming routine to be more gentle and avoid any potential irritation to the treated area.

Can I shave prior to a chemical peel?

Yes - Shave at least 24 hours before you plan to perform a chemical peel. Be as gentle as possible to avoid any nicks or cuts that the peel acid can further irritate. Shaving before a chemical peel can actually help improve the effectiveness of the peel, as it ensures the peel solution is better absorbed and evenly applied without the interference of facial hair.

If you cut/nick yourself shaving in preparation for a peel the next day, what should you do?

If you have a minor cut or any open wounds, it's best to postpone the chemical peel until the area has fully healed. Chemical peels contain active ingredients that can be highly irritating to broken skin and can potentially lead to further inflammation, pain, and delayed healing. It's important to allow the cut to heal completely before considering any chemical peel or other skin treatments.

Can I get a chemical peel if I have a beard?

Yes, a man with a beard can still receive a chemical peel, although there are some considerations to keep in mind. Since the beard hair can interfere with the direct application of the peel solution and make it difficult to achieve an even application, the peel may be less effective in the areas covered by facial hair. However, the areas of skin that are not covered by the beard can still benefit from the peel.

Can I shave right after a peel?

Avoid shaving immediately after a chemical peel, especially if the skin is still experiencing post-peel sensitivity or if there is any visible redness, irritation, or flaking. Shaving can potentially further irritate the skin, leading to discomfort, redness, or even small nicks or cuts. The exact time frame for when it is safe to resume shaving will depend on the type and intensity of the peel, as well as individual factors like skin sensitivity and the healing process. After a chemical peel, the skin is in a delicate state, and it's important to allow it time to heal and recover.

Can I shave any flaking skin?

It is not recommended to shave any skin that is actively peeling or flaking. To assist with removing any dead skin, we instead suggest incorporating gentle exfoliation into your skincare routine, like our Resurfacing AHA/PHA Exfoliating Scrub or any of our Medpeel Daily Exfoliators.

Can I exercise after a peel?

We recommend avoiding vigorous exercise or activities that cause excessive sweating for at least 48 hours after performing a chemical peel. Increased perspiration can potentially irritate the treated skin, cause discomfort, or hinder the healing process. Additionally, excessive sweating can increase the risk of bacterial infection in the open pores and compromised skin.
